I made the goal to do a 14-day whole body detoxification twice a year – at the beginning of the year and then in mid-summer.
So this past Sunday, I started my detox. It’s something I wanted to do now to get my eating habits in line, reduce body fat, and to just be healthier in general.
I didn’t want to do one of those all juice diets, so I did some research and found a primarily vegetable diet that I’m following. My diet allows me to eat pretty much all fruits, vegetables, brown rice, rice noodles, and fish. I have added a small amount chicken, no more than 3 oz a day, to my diet.
I’ve heard pretty much the same consequences in regards to detoxes – headaches during the first couple days, mood swings and well – a lot of peeing because you’re supposed to drink a lot of water. But the end results are supposed to be well worth it – I’ve heard people losing anywhere from 5-15lbs in a week. Essentially, eating habits get changed and if you stick with them, and gradually add in carbs and other foods that are cut out throughout the week, you have a better chance of sticking with these healthy habits and keeping the weight off.
Well, it’s now Day 5 of 14 of my plan and I feel great…finally! Day 1 and 2 were easy….more about self-discipline then anything. Day 3 – 4 were tough. I experienced a migraine headache both days, sugar cravings, insomnia, and found it hard to hold concentration. Aside from frequent trips to the bathroom because of the water, my energy levels have remained high and constant with no big drop-offs. I attribute that to removal of caffeine from my diet and eating smaller meals with more frequency. I haven’t weighed myself, I never gauge my fitness by the scale but I gauge it by the mirror. I’ve notice especially in the last 24 hours more muscle striation appearing in my shoulders, my skin feels tighter, and a thinner waist line. All good!
The challenge will be this weekend for me. I’ve been a hermit the last couple of months – staying in most weekends or going to a hockey game but this weekend I’m looking to maybe spend some time out and will need to avoid the alcohol and bad food temptation.
